Have you been thinking about how to help your pre-teen grow into his or her Jewish identity?

"Coming of age" is a big deal. If navigated skillfully and consciously, this time can be meaningful and wholesome for all involved, parents as well as children. It is a time of identity formation, values clarification, reflection on big questions...and learning a ton about Jewish civilization and religion. It is a time of transition that can be very fruitfully managed for long-term benefits for the individuals and families involved, and for the KHL community and Jewish people.

Starting in the Fall of 2012 we are creating a new program for families with 11 and 12 year-olds who wish to explore the Jewish coming of age process, which for many may include a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Rabbi Geoff Basik will lead a monthly gathering of our children and their parents (two peer groups for mutual support and shared learning) who wish to begin this journey of exploration and discovery.
