Conscious Community

"Conscious Community: A Guide to Inner Work"

Kol HaLev is continuing our exploration of the spiritual handbook by Reb Kalonymus Shapira on the second and fourth Shabbat of every month. Whether you will be reading this book for the first time, or re-reading and discussing it in our slow and reflective manner, all are welcome. "Conscious Community" seems to be a bridge between traditional Judaism and the kind of spiritual growth of awareness and responsiveness that you may be looking for. You are invited to join Rabbi Geoff on Saturday, December 22 at noon.  Bring some food to share as we begin another round of reading and discussion.

We are fortunate to have guides, "spiritual handbooks," for such work. The text "Conscious Community: A Guide to Inner Work" (B'nai Machdshavah Tovah), by Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapira, is one that is readily accessible thanks to Rabbi Andrea.

Reb Shapira was the great rabbi of the Warsaw ghetto. Rabbi Andrea writes: "He was so close to us in time that he could have been our teacher, or the teacher of our teachers, had he not been martyred along with the destruction of Polish Jewry. This educator and master was teaching meditation and writing a Torah commentary during the years of the war. The great teachers in our time to whom we can compare him include Thich Nhat Hahn and the Dalai Llama."
